Before you submit an enquiry, using one of the two options below, you may find your answer in one of our research guides. These cover a wide range of popular topics from family history and First World War, to criminals, courts and prisons.

We receive a high volume of enquiries that are AI-assisted and refer to inaccurate document information. If you are using an AI tool to prepare your research enquiry, please be aware that generative AI tools do not currently have the ability to accurately search our catalogue, so any document references it suggests may be misleading or incorrect.

We do not hold:

• Birth, marriage and death certificates – please contact the General Register Office
• Some Second World War personnel records – please see the Ministry of Defence service records project page
• Wills or divorce records since 1858 – please contact the Probate Service or the Central Family Court, respectively
