Archives from across the UK reported acquiring more than 13,600 collections in 2024, with 1100 coming from Wales and 1039 from Scotland.
251 organisations participated in the accessions to repositories survey, including 128 local archives, 21 national institutions, 30 specialist repositories, 61 university archives and 1 business archive. There were 38 collections that included manorial documents, 191 collections of public records eligible for New Burdens funding and 56 repositories that acquired material through sales.

The survey provides us with valuable data on collecting trends in the sector, giving us useful insights into what archives are collecting year on year, and how the type of material and records collected might be shifting. It can also provide insights into regional variations, differences between types of archives, and whether collecting trends are changing over time.
Thank you to all the archives that contributed to the 2024 Accessions to Repositories Survey and helped us continue to obtain a better view of collecting across the sector.
