Inquisition into offences committed in Essex, 1381
Extract from the findings of the commission of Oyer
and Terminer
conducted at Havering and Chelmsford from 26 June to 2 July 1381.
The commissioners, Robert Tresilian and William Morrers, had been
appointed on 23 June to investigate all treasons, felonies, trespasses,
extortions, oppressions, damages, grievances and excesses done to
the king's people in Essex. In particular, this extract demonstrates
both the opportunism of the rebels in seizing property and the unpopularity
