Exchequer: Treasury of the Receipt Document – Royal order regarding records, dated 14 September 1670.

  1. At the Court at Whitehall
  2. the 14th of September 1670.
  3. By the King’s most excellent Ma[jes]ty and the Right
  4. hono[ra]ble the Lords of his Ma[jes]ties most hono[ra]ble Privy Councill
  5. Whereas the Right hono[ra]ble the Earle of Oxford Warden
  6. and Chiefe Justice in Eyre of all his Ma[jes]t[i]es Forests, Chases
  7. Parkes etc on this side Trent, Did this day represent to
  8. his Ma[jes]ty in Council, That he being now ready to keepe
  9. Courts w[i]th in Sev[er]all of the s[ai]d Forests, He cannot well
  10. proceede therein for want of certaine Records
  11. remaining in the Tower of London, vizt the perambulac[i]on
  12. of the New Forest a Temp[ore] Edw[ardi] 1. 2. 3. It was thought
  13. fitt and accordingly Ordered by his Ma[jes]ty in Countil, That
  14. the Right hono[ra]ble the Lord Keeper of the Greate Seale of
  15. Englon[d], doe advise with the Lord Chiefe Justice of
  16. his Ma[jes]t[i]es Court of Com[m]on Pleas touching the same,
  17. and forthwith give Order to the Keepers of the s[ai]d
  18. Records to deliver them to the Earle of Oxford, or to
  19. send some fitt person to attend his Lo[rdshi]pp w[i]th them
  20. dureing his Justice Seat and that then they be
  21. returned againe into the office of the Records in the
  22. Tower
