Description Version 1.1 is an enhanced version of the software tool developed by The National Archives to perform automated batch identification of file formats. It was released in August 2006, under an open source license. DROID 1.1 incorporates a number of enhancements, resulting from user feedback and new TNA requirements, including enhanced signature syntax in PRONOM, enhanced identification algorithm, support for identifying URIs and streams, configuration of proxy server settings from the GUI, and improved XML schemas. Existing DROID users should note that the DROID 1.1 signature file schema is not compatible with previous versions of DROID. Users are recommended to upgrade to DROID 1.1, in order to take advantage of future signature file updates from PRONOM.
