A cartoon, depicting a glamorously uniformed nurse ‘Bitsy' and bedridden sick sailor. ‘Bill'. Bitsy has given Bill a photo with ‘All my love Bitsy' signed upon it. The other photos testify that she has also given the same photo with the same message to numerous other sailors, hence ‘With all my love – Nearly'. Illustration for Ditty Box magazine (for sailors).

Described as ‘The Navy's Own Magazine', Ditty Box was produced by HMSO for the Admiralty from July 1944 to January 1949. A monthly magazine, its aim was ‘to further the morale of the Navy and keep the personnel more conversant with public, topical affairs and general news' (ADM 116/5644)
