‘Charles was my father, Ernest was his elder brother and Lewis his younger brother. Florence their mother was widowed in the first six weeks of WW1. Her husband Ernest Alfred Riddle was lost at sea by enemy action along with 1,500 other men. The three brothers never really knew their father and Florence brought them up by herself until she passed away in 1943.’
