England – indeed, the United Kingdom, led the world in so many aspects in 1966: pop music, fashion, film, and to cap it all – England won the World Cup. But beyond the accolades and success, the nation was also experiencing economic crisis and industrial strife.
Was it really a golden era? Contemporary Specialist Mark Dunton explores the events of this celebrated year.
