"King George VI" Tim, 1942

Catalogue ref: INF 3/78Links to the Catalogue

A portrait of King George VI in naval uniform. The King remained at Buckingham Palace throughout the war despite the danger from bombing. He vowed to defend the Palace to the death with a pistol if necessary. During the war the King visited troops, munitions factories, supply docks and bomb-damaged areas in support of the war effort. The actions of the King and Queen in the war years improved the perception of the monarchy for many.
