A letter from King George VI to Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister, 14 December 1938, asking him to tell the Duke of Windsor that it would not be wise for him to contemplate a visit to Britain. He adds,

'I think you know that neither the Queen [Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother] nor Queen Mary have any desire to meet the Duchess of Windsor.'
