Demobilisation of British and empire troops

Table showing figures for the demobilisation of British and empire troops, 1919.

As this table illustrates, the huge logistical challenge of demobilising the armies of the British empire was well under way by early 1919. It covers all of the troops stationed in Mesopotamia, India, Egypt and Salonika, as well as the ANZAC, Indian and Chinese troops serving on the Western Front. Although armies of occupation were left behind in many of the former areas of military conflict, the vast majority of troops were speedily released from military service.
