Officer's service record

Casualty form (active service) for General F S Maude, commander-in-chief of the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force.

General Frederick Maude's period as commander-in-chief of British forces in Mesopotamia was brief but successful. Appointed in August 1916, he presided over the recapture of Kut-al-Amara from the Turks in February 1917 and the captureSW of Baghdad less than a month later. Such 'distinguished service', as noted in his casualty form, earned him a number of honours and titles before his untimely death from cholera in Baghdad in November 1917.
