The sources for the First World
War held by The National Archives and the Imperial War
Museum offer richly varied insights into all aspects of what
H
G Wells called 'the war that will end war'.
By making a selection of these records
available online for the first time, this exhibition provides
a valuable research tool for all those interested in modern
history - including anyone tracing military records of ancestors
who served in the First World War or researching controversies
relating to the conflict.
Beyond that, it aims to create a wider
understanding of the global nature of the war and its consequences,
which in areas such as the Balkans and Palestine are still
being felt today. |
