This image of a working-class family group, (the Lowe family of Wednesbury, West Midlands), shows a wide range of clothing types, from the 'high Victorian' dress of the elderly couple to that of the young men, some with flat cap and stock, others with ties and bowler hats. The children are arguably the most smartly dressed, the boys in Norfolk jackets and 'Eton' collars, the baby in an elaborately frilled dress and cap.
