Rothschild Dwellings, Whitechapel |
These flats in the East End of London consisted of two rooms, a kitchen and a toilet, at weekly rents of between 4s and 6s 6d. The main living room was typically used as a bedroom at night. 'Can you imagine a family with 7 children in 2 rooms and a kitchen - how can you be clean?' commented one resident. |
