The latest technology

This electric cooking stove and iron are advertised in the catalogue of Merryweather & Son, in London. New technology was beginning to revolutionise work in the home, but, at these prices, no working-class household would have been able to afford an electric cooker, or the electricity supply to run it. Significantly, the advertisement shows it being used by servants.
