Riots at Birmingham
prevent David Lloyd George making a speech on the war in South Africa
and he has to be smuggled away, disguised as a policeman. One person
is killed.
Boer general De Wet captures four
companies of Yeomanry at Tweefontein, seen by some as the last significant
Boer victory in the South African War. Peace is not declared until 31
