The possibility of continuing good relations between Britain and Germany was reflected in an end-of-year message from the German Kaiser to his uncle Edward VII, in which he observed that their long-standing ties must override the bitter hostilities in sections of the press. Besides ties of royalty and aristocracy, close links existed in the fields of business, journalism, science, art, education, philosophy and many other areas. | |
