Free Africans as well as slaves worked for the British. As the entries
towards the end of this list of Royal African Company personnel illustrate,
Africans on the payroll of the RAC helped to maintain Royal African
Company 'factories' (trading stations and forts) in Africa and sometimes
acted as military back-up. The list also shows the range of skills
possessed by RAC employees.
