Medical officers’ report on the condition of Nelson’s health
Enclosed in a letter from Peter Parker, dated 5 September 1780, from Princess Royal Port, Royal Harbour Jamaica to Philip Stephens, Secretary of the Admiralty.
Peter Parker wrote to the Admiralty expressing his fears that Nelson would die 'Captain Nelson is so emaciated and in so bad a state of health that I doubt whether he will live to get home. I wish much for his recovery. His abilities in this profession would be a loss to the service'. This was on the basis of the following medical advice he had sought and was given by medical officers.
