Although unemployed this did not stop Nelson being involved in naval business. Here he uses his own personal interest with the First Lord of the Admiralty, Admiral Viscount Keppel, to help a Joseph Bromwich who had served under Nelson on HMS Albemarle. This letter not only shows how patronage worked in the Navy, but also Nelson’s growing confidence and interest and his personal concern for the welfare of his men.
