UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation (UKHMF) testimonies and transcripts licensing arrangements

The National Archives holds the footage and transcripts of 112 audio-visual interviews with 113 British Holocaust survivors and liberators recorded by the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation (UKHMF) between 2015 and 2016.

You can apply for a licence to obtain and re-use the high-resolution footage of the testimonies and the transcripts of the interviews.  It is free to apply for a licence, but charges might be levied to cover the cost of post, packaging and external storage media where large volumes of full quality footage are requested.

Licensing conditions

The licence is granted on the condition that the re-use of the material respects the dignity of the participants and the memory of the Holocaust.

It is important to note that any licence we issue will not be:

  • a data sharing agreement for personal data
  • a processing agreement for personal data

Licences are granted for a term of 10 years.

A few interviewees have specified that their testimonies and transcripts may only be used for certain purposes, and restrictions on use are indicated in the Discovery catalogue records.  For example, the Discovery record might state that re-use of a testimony or transcript is permitted for educational and / or charitable purposes only, or conditions could exclude use for broadcast or social media.
