Further advice and assistance

We have interpreted this as a request for information about Crown copyright material assigned away from the Crown: assignments in the opposite direction are of third-party copyright, whilst as a result they might become Crown-owned this is not the same as Crown copyright as defined in legislation. As you have asked for transfers from 1990 onwards, we have included assignments made by the Keeper’s predecessors, the Controller(s) of His Majesty’s Stationery Office (HMSO) and the King’s Printer for Scotland.

We can advise that a list of transfers is published on the Completed assignments and assignations page on The National Archives’ website.

It appears under the second heading, Assignments away from the Crown. A list covering the earlier period can be downloaded from the Crown copyright page of the archived Office of Public Sector Information website – see the link to Assignments of Crown Owned Copyrights in the right hand menu.

Exemptions applied

Section 21: Information readily available to the applicant by other means

Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) does not oblige a public authority to provide information if it is already reasonably accessible by other means.

In this case the exemption applies because the information is already available on The National Archives’ website, links have been provided as part of this response above.

Further guidance on the application of this exemption can be found on the ICO's website.
