Chartism (North East)

What can we learn from local and national archive collections about the methods employed by the Chartists in the North East of England?

In this workshop students will use a variety of documents including official letters, pamphlets, transcripts of speeches and newspaper articles to explore the methods employed by the Chartists in the North East of England. They will learn about prominent Sunderland Chartists, George Binns and James Williams and about public meetings, speeches and disturbances in Sunderland and Newcastle.
