Nelson Mandela

Letter of thanks from Nelson Mandela to Sir John Maud for sending him books via the British Embassy, 14 September, 1962. Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) was a South African anti-apartheid political leader who was to serve as the first black President of South Africa and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was imprisoned for 27 years by the government because of his fight against apartheid, (Catalogue ref:  DO 119/1478)
