Act of Union 1801

The Union Flag, or Union Jack, is the flag of the United Kingdom. It is so called as it combined the crosses of the three countries united under one Sovereign, the kingdoms of England and Wales, of Scotland and of Ireland. This design for the flag comes from a royal proclamation following the union of Great Britain and Ireland during the reign of George III. (Catalogue ref: PC 2/157)
