George Edwards

Letter to Henry Hobhouse, Permanent Under-Secretary 1817-1827, about a Bill of Indictment against George Edwards, the government spy, or agent provocateur. A Bill of Indictment was a formal document accusing a person of having committed a crime and given to a Grand Jury to decide if a trial ought to take place. (Catalogue reference HO 44/6/243)

Sir

A Bill of Indictment against George Edwards for High Treason has been presented to the Grand Jury this Morning, the witnesses attending to support it are:

Robert Wood
John Seymour

They have been sworn [taken oath] but have not been examined yet.
