Judges’ Summary

A very creative piece which directly and imaginatively uses the historical source. The limited use of colour creates a dramatic effect and as a viewer it is easy to see what Matilda was trying to achieve. It would be a fantastic poster or illustration about the persecution of women during the witch trials, really super work.

CHOSEN THEME: Freedom

INSPIRED BY:

STAC 8/149/24: Accused by neighbours

‘Accused by neighbours – an accused witch is attacked with brambles and pins. I wanted to show how she could escape by pushing them out and free herself from chains so the pins are flying out.’
