This census return is for 1861 — two years before Timothy was born.
It is the first census record detailing Timothy’s father, who is also called Timothy. Timothy’s father was not born in London. When he moved to London he settled in Southwark. This was an area popular with immigrants in the early nineteenth century. Housing in such inner industrial areas was quite cheap. There were lots of jobs for unskilled workers.
