This document was written in May 1945 by the Defence
Chiefs of Staff. These were the leading military commanders of all the Armed
Forces in Britain.
At the time they were writing tension was mounting
over the Communist takeovers in Eastern Europe.
The document was very long and set out what Stalin's
aims appeared to be. It also made predictions about how strong the USSR would
be by the mid 1950s.
This section - Section 33 - is a summary of the
whole document and explains what the military leaders think Britain's policy
should be in 1947 and after.
