Constructed in 1951 at a cost
of around £500,000 it is a semi-sunk building providing a space of
around 2,000 sq metres (14,000 sq ft). The walls are constructed of .75
metre (2ft approx) concrete which is strengthened every few centimetres
with steel mesh. The roof is over 1 metre (3 ft approx) thick and the foundations
are set in 3 metres of concrete. The entrances are protected by heavy blast
walls and canopies, with outer blast doors made of tank steel. |
