HO75/1; the Police Gazette reported and publicised crimes. This was intended to help catch criminals, of course, but also led to greater awareness of crime and an impression of a "crime wave". This extract from the Gazette shows some of the crimes reported in one week in January 1828.
As you read these sources look for:
(i) Is this crime the same as crimes committed for hundreds of years?
(ii) Is this crime just a new opportunity for an old crime?
(iii) Is this an entirely new crime?
In Source 1, look for what was stolen, from what kind of place, and by whom.
