Annotation Ornamental Design for Tape measure. Messrs. Wilson and Amphlet. Proprietors Birmingham and Mauchline. Class 4.
Notes
This item is an example of Mauchlineware - small wooden objects named after the main area of manufacture, the town of Mauchline, located south east of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire in Scotland. Mauchline items are usually made from sycamore wood and were decorated with a small black printed design. Many were sold as souvenirs of famous places of interest in Britain but can also be found with views from other parts of the British Empire. The items normally have a practical use - sewing accessories, letter openers, match holders and napkin rings are common.
