Notes
This design commemorates the Irish politician and nationalist, Daniel O'Connell who died in Genoa in 1847. In accordance with his wishes his embalmed heart was sent to Rome and his body returned to Ireland where it was first placed in a temporary grave, and from 1869 in the vault of a specially designed memorial. It is probably the act of re-burial, on 14 May 1869, which had stimulated greater interest in O'Connell and caused this design to be registered. For the potters' standard size numbers following the pattern title see design 213430.
