Pratt & Company is best known for its use of colour printing techniques on ceramic wares. The bright colours and attractive designs drawing the attention of the buying public, as much for the decorative qualities of the jars as for the cosmetic and food products they contained. [These covers are usually known by the collecting term 'pot-lids,' the bases were quite often discarded and the covers framed]. Pratt & Company designs were also applied, as in this case, to a range of earthenware and terracotta tableware shapes.
