Announcing the war was over
The Cabinet discussed how the momentous news – that the war was over – should be communicated to the public.
Methods selected included an announcement through the Press Bureau, ringing of Church bells throughout the country, and the firing of maroons – a type of rocket which made a loud banging noise and a bright flash.
