The National Strategy for Business Archives (England and Wales) was published in 2009 and aimed to raise the profile of business archives, ensuring that they are used by businesses and researchers alike and that future collections are more representative of the UK’s diverse economic activity.
Produced by The National Archives and its partners, the Business Archives Council, the Society of Archivists (now Archives and Records Association), Museums Libraries and Archives Council, the Welsh Government (through CyMAL), the Economic History Society and the Association of Business Historians, the strategy resulted in several outcomes including:
- the Managing Business Archives website
- the formation and development of the Crisis Management Team for Business Archives
- Corporate Memory, a brochure advocating for the value of business archives (PDF, 7.2 MB)
A National Strategy for Business Archives in Scotland (PDF, 1.2 MB) was created in 2011 by the Business Archives Council of Scotland in partnership with the Ballast Trust and with the support of the National Archives of Scotland and on behalf of the Scottish Council on Archives.
