‘Golden’ Seal of Henry V (front side)

A document known as an ‘Inspeximus’ (or inspection) was created when the king (or his official) inspected the patent rolls or an original charter of his predecessor(s) in order to confirm the renewal of a grant.

In this case, Henry V’s Great Seal was used to authenticate letters patent for a charter originally granted by Henry III to the Abbot and Convent of place of St. Edward, granting one skin of wine of prise of Southampton.
