It is my understanding that these records were recovered by the allied forces in 1945 from Germany.

Under the FOI Act could you please inform me of the location, and if possible date, that these documents were liberated from the German military.

Thank you for your enquiry of 14th September 2016, in which you asked for information about the exact origins of the WO 416 series at The National Archives.

It is my understanding that these records were recovered by the allied forces in 1945 from Germany.

Under the FOI Act could you please inform me of the location, and if possible date, that these documents were liberated from the German military.

Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000. The FOI Act gives you the right to know whether we hold the information you want and to have it communicated to you, subject to any exemptions which may apply.

I can confirm that The National Archives does not hold the information requested.

These cards came into the possession of the British Army at the end of the Second World War, which passed them to the War Office in London
