Thank you for your enquiry of 22nd July, in which you asked for information regarding recycling and waste management contracts at The National Archives.

Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)

I can confirm that The National Archives holds information relevant to your request and that we are pleased to be able to provide this information to you below.

  1. Contract Type-

The National Archives has a single Facilities Management Contract with Bouygues Energies and Services.  Recycling and waste management form part of this managed service contract and Bouygues sub-contract this work to Grundon.

Bouygues have three sub-contacts with Grundon (for the purpose of this request these shall be referred to as Contracts A, B and C).

  • Contract A – Food waste collection services used for Anaerobic digestion
  • Contract B – General (refuse) waste services – incinerated
  • Contract C – Recycling collection services
  1. The supplier of the recycling or waste contract

Bouygues Energies and Services – sub-contracted to Grundon

  1. What is the annual average spends for each of the suppliers. For those organisations with new contracts can you please specify the estimated spend?

The cost of the waste and recycling management service is included within the Bouygues Energies and Services contract cost to The National Archives, however details of the cost of the Grundon service are as follows:

Contract A – £1,849 + VAT

Contract B – £9,855 + VAT

Contract C – £10,929 +VAT

Contract A – Set collection of twice per week

Contract B – Call off as and when compactors is full

Contract C – Call off as and when compactor is full

  1. What is the contract duration of the each of the contract(s)?

The National Archives contract with our Facilities Management service partner, Bouygues E&S was awarded in 2009 on a 5 year contract term with the possibility of two 1 year extensions.  Cabinet Office has agreed a further 12 month extension of this contract until December 2016 to allow The National Archives to tender via the Crown Commercial Services government wide Facilities Management Contract Model (FMCM) framework.

The National Archives contract with Bouygues Energies and Services commenced in January 2009.

  1. What is the expiry date of each contract(s)?

The National Archives contract with Bouygues Energies and Services will expire in December 2016.

  1. When does the organisation intend to review these contract(s)

Bouygues Energies and Services carries out regular sub-contract and supplier reviews.

Our Facilities Management contract is due to be tendered in 2016 and this will include recycling and waste management services.
