Reclosure policy guidance

FOI request reference: CAS-184556
Publication date: May 2024

Request

Please can you provide a copy of the most recent guidance issued to staff at The National Archives on its reclosure policy, setting out under what conditions material which had previously been available in the archive as a public record would be removed from public access.

Outcome

No information held.

Response:

I can confirm that The National Archives does not hold relevant information.

The National Archives’ reclosure policy is accessible to staff on demand, and can be found on our website: https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/legal/takedown-and-reclosure-policy/

Reclosure decisions are made in line with current information rights legislation, including the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) and the Data Protection Act 2018. New staff are provided with training on both the FOI Act and data protection during their information management training as part of their induction and periodically throughout their employment as members of the Civil Service.
