Please regard this as a FOI request for NRA 20951, which, I understand, is a summary of the MS collections of regimental museums for the National Register of Archives. Normally, of course, one would view this on open shelves at TNA; however, NRS volumes have been ‘out of action’ for over a year (due to refurbishment encroaching on library space) and, despite limited reopening soon, I gather they are still unavailable. I am sending this as a FOI request as I cannot think of any other way of accessing the information concerned. I would be most grateful for your assistance.
The information you requested is held at The National Archives and is available to view in the reading rooms. During the current period The National Archives is offering a limited service. To view NRA List 20951 you will first need to book your visit and order the document in advance.
You are welcome to visit us – please check our website for details of our opening hours and registration requirements: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/visit/before-you-visit.htm
As this information is already available through the above routes, it is therefore exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the FOI Act 2000 – information accessible via other means. For further information about why this exemption has been applied, please see the explanatory Annex at the end of this letter.
Section 21: Information readily available to the applicant by other means
Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) does not oblige a public authority to provide information if it is already reasonably accessible by other means. In this case the exemption applies because the information is already available.
