Description Audacity is free and open source audio editing, recording and post-processing software. The first version (0.8) was released in 2000 by Dominic Mazzoni and Roger Dannenberg at Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania. It remains available today. An Audacity project consists of an xml based aup project file, which is the name of the project followed by .aup . Next to the .aup file is a folder containing many .au files, each one being a segment of audio data. The aup file describes how audacity links the au files together to form the tracks in the project.
