This map was produced by Barnaby Gooche (1540-94). Gooche was a kinsman of Lord Burghley and, from 1563, a gentleman-pensioner. He first went to Ireland in 1574.
He was appointed provost marshal in 1582, but resigned his post in 1585 and returned to England.
