The war is the pacific region is sometimes considered an all American affair. Large numbers of Australian soldiers were involved in fighting the Japanese, many of whom proved very difficult to defeat. To overcome the Japanese soldiers, John French had to make the ultimate sacrifice for which he received a posthumous Victoria Cross.
