"Technical drawing of a British aircraft carrier" Artist unknown, 1939-1945
Catalogue ref: INF 3/1498
A somewhat inaccurate cut-away technical drawing of a British aircraft carrier at sea. This type of image often appeared in boys' magazines, for those fascinated by the internal workings of equipment. This particular sketch may well have been commissioned for a book such as Britain's wonderful fighting forces, but was certainly not used!
The comments in the border of the piece are somewhat critical of the ability of the artist to produce such a detailed technical drawing.
Transcription – Teddy: This looks more like a child's sketch than a serious representation of an aircraft carrier. Please have a specialist do this, as suggested originally. BH BH. This appears to be the solution do you agree? WE 26/1
