Marshall Josip Broz Tito, Yugoslavian politician with close ties to Stalin, who emerged as the leader of Yugoslav communist resistance forces in 1941. He was supported from the first by the USSR, but in 1944 also received the full support of Britain and the United States. The Balkan Air Force was formed in June 1944, largely to support his forces.
