A portrait of the former Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who married Prince Albert, Duke of York, in 1923 and became HM The Queen in 1936 when Albert succeeded to the throne as George VI. During the Blitz, the King and Queen remained in London. They visited a large number of factories and other war-torn areas, becoming symbols of courage to the British people.
