Record copying estimating service
The copy estimating service is moving towards an automated system whereby copies will be costed on the average page count of a series. It is anticipated that this will go live during the autumn.
Please be aware changes are taking place to this service. The first phase has now been implemented in that we will not search:
- within any document for an individual, unless the catalogue description indicates that the file is for that particular person only
- for any details within a date range within any document
- within the WO 97 series.
If a search is required to identify the items to be copied, you can pay us to do the search, hire an independent researcher or carry out the research yourself. Find out more about search options.
We have taken this decision because, while we have been providing an increasing number of estimates, the number of actual copy orders from these estimates is declining. As a result, the service no longer covers its costs.
How to place an order
We can copy our documents onto paper for you in a range of sizes and formats. We are also able to copy documents onto CD-ROM and/or DVD, deliver them through the DocumentsOnline section of our website, or copy them onto microform.

Digital Express Copy Service
For fast delivery of up to ten digital images from documents in our catalogue please see Digital Express.
Most records that are held on site, and are not available on microfilm or online, and are a maximum of A2 paper size depending on the physical nature of the document can be copied using this service. Terms and Conditions, FAQs and prices for this service are available from the above link.
Use your own camera at Kew
Cameras may be used to take photographs of some documents. Please ask for further details at the record copying desk when you visit or see our digital photography policy
