Annual report and resource accounts 2007

Music and autographs written by famous composers would have been lost without it. The plans and drawings of major churches from Victorian times to the Second World War faced an uncertain future without its generosity. Now, The National Manuscripts Conservation Trust (NMCT), which, since 1990, has been responsible for the conservation of hundreds of priceless manuscripts, is administered by The National Archives.

NMCT provides financial assistance to support the preservation of the nations written heritage.

NMCT will advise applicants for funding on matters relating to potential applications, including specific preservation policies and strategies and best practice in preservation.

Any record offices, libraries and owners of manuscript material that is exempt from capital taxation or owned by a charitable trust can apply for funding. For a manuscript to be considered, the public must have reasonable access to it and it should be housed in suitable storage conditions. The applicant must also be firmly committed to continuing good preservation practice.

Grants are awarded bi-annually, each April and October.
